Talk:Commands (Quake 4)

Shouldn't we have a page, where all commands which all the game engines share are at, to reduce duplicates?

No

The individual command pages are shared, but maintaining separate lists is useful enough and reduces confusion that it is worth the trouble (and it's not even much trouble).

I disagree

Where's the purpose of having two seperate lists? A good example is selfhtml, although you might not be able to read it (it's german) their way of defining which tag is valid in which html standard or specifiaction and what works in which browser seems simple and straightforward to me: They just append a logo in front of the topic! We could have that with console commands too.. Appeding small logos of which game they apply to in front of them. As you have noticed I'm adding comments to the quake3 console command list, because many of them are so simple that they don't need a seperate page. When Prey or ETQW come out there'll be 4 pages to append changes too!

Lists

The thing is that maintaining even 4 separate lists is not a difficult process! They only change when a patch is released and updating them is a matter of doing listcvars/listcmds and doing a diff on the same output from the old version! Granted, having the little notes after each command could make it a hint more complex, but that's up to the person adding the notes. I like the separate lists because it gives a good overview if one is just looking for things for one game, I mean, noone cares about which cvars/commands are shared between games really. --iceheart 17:42, 14 December 2005 (W.
